WHY THE REVISED COMMON LECTIONARY?
There are many reasons why many of those responsible for preaching and teaching in Christian settings opt to follow a calendar of Bible readings. One of the most compelling to me is the sense of a common journey, of co-traveling, with other congregations and across denominational line. That on any given Sunday morning or given week, a Christian church in California would be reading and mediating on the same passage of scripture as a congregation in Maine. In this sense the ecumenical and participatory nature of the RCL is as meaningful as it is appealing. In addition, the RCL's direct connection and integration of the liturgical calendar and its sequential arrangement make narrative preaching possible, and it is in the story of scripture that we find ourselves.
Since the RCL arranged its scripture selections across a three year rotation I've aimed to do the same. To access manuscripts and records sermons click on the relevant buttons below. To view the whole RCL calendar, click here.
